Happy longest day of the year!! Enjoy it today…it all goes downhill from here!
I have five more days left in Michigan. Today I’ll probably be going for a run, then a bike ride with my dad, and getting a mani/pedi for my college roommate’s wedding tomorrow. It’s supposed to be really hot, and the rest of the days I’m here the weather is calling for thunderstorms, so I’m glad I got everything “outdoorsy” out of the way last week and this week.
Week in Review
1. Starting with last Friday, I got to Cedar Point, which I will remind everyone again is the greatest amusement park in the world! It was PERFECT weather, and I had a blast with my college roommate Tammy (the one getting married).
2. I’ve been getting in runs just about every other day, including a 9-mile run/walk at a place called Kensington Park. I’ve also been doing the Gain Fitness (not an affiliate) interval app about every other day. My dad has a Vitamix blender, which is the Cadillac of blenders, and it seriously kicks my blender’s ass! It’s awesome! So I’ve been getting in my green smoothies just about every day and generally eating really well on this trip.
3. Even though I’ve been eating well and exercising, I’m fighting Michigan allergies. I’m just not used to that green stuff called….uh grass? Yeah, we don’t have that in LA. lol! OK you know what I mean. I’ve had a bit of brain fog and a sore throat this entire time.
4. Speaking of sickness, I went to see Man of Steel last Saturday, and it was the sickest (and rudest) audience I’ve ever seen. WTF are you doing going to a movie when you and your kids are sneezing and hacking? It was so distracting, and I kind of found the movie to be fairly mediocre.
5. I’ve spent some quality time with my dad and stepmom, cooking dinner with them and sharing some of my recipes. We had dinner with my dad on Father’s Day with my step brother-in-law and his two kids (Jacob, 15 and Kyle, 9). We also went to see a Tiger game on Tuesday night since I’ve never been to the new stadium downtown. It was nice, even though the Tigers got their butt kicked.
6. My mom and I have also spent some QT together as well, going to the Toledo Zoo yesterday, and lunch on Monday. She also went with me to get my Grandma’s ring mounted into a pendant necklace, which I get to pick up Monday! I can’t wait to see it! Total cost for necklace and labor: $130.
7. Speaking of money, I have a confession to make. I went shopping. The devil won and I bought a new dress for the wedding at Kohl’s, along with some summer tops which I really needed wanted. I spent $179. Not too bad, although I kind of admit to wanting more, because sometimes with Kohl’s and other discount stores, the clothes are hit or miss. The outfit I’m wearing in the zoo pic is from Kohl’s.
8. Getting back to “reality,” blog work has been going well. I always feel bad posting too many sponsored posts, but right now video work has been sloooooowww, so I kind of have to do that to keep food on the table for the kids myself. Thankfully there is some video work waiting for me when I get back, but it’s still too slow right now for me. I might have another side gig opportunity, but I’ll write about it if and when that pans out.

I like this post from Cat at Budget Blonde about How to Avoid the Quarter Life Crisis. It reminds me of when I quit my job at Ford and traveled cross country without knowing a single soul or having a job and moving to Seattle. Best decision I ever made.
Kim at Eyes on the Dollar writes about one of my favorite subjects: Excuses or Choices? I hate excuses because it takes so much control out of your hands and puts it into the hands of fate.
My favorite post of the week goes to a guest poster at Frugal Portland who explains Why I Always Pay On the First Date. I can’t say “thank you” enough! Well said!!

Jen from The Happy Homeowner has been going through a bit of a rough time lately, and then I saw this in my feed: The Day I Had a Heart Attack. Pretty scary stuff, but then she posted: Accepted an Offer for $30K Over Asking Price about selling her condo…so hopefully those positive things keep coming for her!
What are you up to this weekend?
